Smart City Art Now And In The Future

Paintings from this collection celebrate humanity’s ability to create smart and sustainable cities now and in the future.

By the year 2050, nearly 70% of the world’s population will live in cities. (United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs) This means that urbanization can contribute to sustainable growth, if managed well, especially since more than 80% of global GDP is generated in cities.

In addition, this means that many non-urban areas around the planet can be given a rest and much-needed time to heal.

Smart City Green by DOROTHEA SANDRA

Paintings from this abstract SMART CITY ART COLLECTION focus on smart and sustainable positive growth solutions for cities.

Why did I create this Smart City Green artwork?

In creating this particular painting, my goal was to express the vibrant dynamism of urban life, intertwined with the pulse of nature. The abstract swirls and explosive color use depict a thriving metropolis alive with energy and movement, while symbols suggest technology's interplay with a green, sustainable future. This painting captures the essence of chaos and harmony, urging viewers to reflect on our complex relationship with the environment and technology. It brings an energetic spark and contemplative depth to any space.

What were some of my influences?

I lived in Tokyo for 5 years, and for two of those years, I worked as an English rewriter for the anime/animation industry. I rewrote the English for a Studio Ghibli film, done by Hayao Miyazaki, before it got sold to Disney. In this project and hundreds of other projects, I had to study each anime/animation frame and make sure the translated dialogue sounded natural. Working so closely with such brilliant artists and their artwork, I think their influence sometimes comes out in my artwork today.

At first glance, this is an abstract work of art. On closer inspection, many smart and sustainable symbols for healthy living are an essential part of this painting.

Can you see them?

Price is not the prime consideration.

I kept the prices for the paintings in this series deliberately low. My primary purpose for creating this art is to celebrate and promote knowledge and favor for smart and sustainable cities in the future, not make a big art sale.
