This abstract painting has meaning and merit. My Smart City Art series was the featured art at the 2025 SRI Sustainability Research & Innovation Congress in Chicago. Scientists and researchers from around the word were saying about sustainability, "We have the science! We just need the word to get out!" It's 2026, and at least here in the USA, the word has gotten out, and smart and sustainable cities are beneficial, but it seems as if we are going backwards. Why are we denying or ignoring all the science?
In creating this piece, I swirled vibrant oranges and deep blues to capture the pulsating energy of a bustling cityscape. The abstract, expressionist strokes reveal a dynamic intersection of urban life and some environmental and technological advances. I used acrylics and ink to layer complexity, hoping to evoke a sense of constant movement and the vibrancy of living in a connected, digital age. Each brushstroke is meant to inspire thoughts about our modern society's rapid and as well as impeded growth and interconnected nature.
